Where was the WWII shotgun shell pouch attached to the shotgun?

Just curious how/where the WWII shotgun pouch was attached, especially when used with a trench gun. Can't find any photos. Thanks

It was worn on the belt. The belt loop is too small to fit onto the gun.

Yes, most pics show them either on a garrison belt or a pistol belt, at least with men performing sentry duty......

WW1 grenade vests worn on the chest or to the side were also used to carry shotgun shells during WW2- there are several well known pictures of these in use.
