We've lost Joe Hartwell, a USMF contributor and friend with whom I've corresponded with many times regarding the USN, WWI, CAC, etc, etc.

Rather than recap his life, I'll let his own words tell his story

Joseph Allen Hartwell - My Bio Page and why I started this website

Joe's webpages which many of us have used over the years for research - Site Map, Defeating the Hun which include the USS MARYLAND/USS FREDERICK where he included my grandfathers letters and also the USS CALIFORNIA/USS SAN DIEGO which we were recently updating.

As a new member of the forum, I didn't know Joe.  But I do understand how

important it is to give tribute and recognition to anyone, especially Joe, for his time,

effort and valuable information, to make our collecting more enjoyable.

I am sad to see his passing.  Approximately 6-9 months ago ..he assisted in writing and updating my Grandfather’s WWI info in the 60th CAC.  He was a wonderful man......

His contributions to the subjects of military history he enjoyed researching will live on through his tireless efforts.
