stratasfan Posted May 25, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 25, 2020 OK . . . watching "Operation Petticoat" and when they are taking the Sea Tiger away from the PI for the first time after repairs . . . there is a sailor standing behind Cary Grant on the bridge. He has the earphones and the microphone and relays the Captain's orders to the Engine Room. What job is that? What would he be called? Thanks! WVsubvet Posted July 13, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 13, 2020 You’re most likely referring to the helmsman. On a WW2 boat there were 2 positions for the helm being the main in the conning tower and auxiliary just below in the control room. He would communicate the OODs orders to engineering for speeds while maintaining course. Engineering would communicate back to the helm once the desired speed or number of turns were reached then helm to OOD. We also did the same on my boat which was a 688 class. Hope this helps! -Joshua
