Pbaczuk Posted May 24, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2020 Here is a unmarked M3 fighting knife named to a Bill Liscum service #39090406. It says Iwo Jima 3-45. He was in the Marine Corps. The M3s were very popular, and there was an obvious demand for them during the war. There were army support personnel on IWO Jima during that campaign, makes sense as a Warrant Officer. SKIP Thanks Skip. I assume the Army personnel were performing a logistics role regarding the air field and getting prepped for USAAF use. I will read up to confirm. Also the U.S. Army's 147th Infantry Regiment fought at Iwo Jima so he may have been with that unit. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
SKIPH Posted May 25, 2020 Share #11 Posted May 25, 2020 kfields- Thanks, for the info on the 147th Infantry, looked up the unit, they did a lot in the PTO, and they got overshadowed by the Marines, even though they fought in most of the same campaigns.
