Wade16 Posted May 11, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2020 What do you members think about the Dewey medal listed on Ebay? The medal engraving looks very rough. The person named is on the ship roster. The medal is supposed to be a Tiffany made piece.
MMcollector Posted May 11, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 11, 2020 Someone spend $1,000+ on a repo medal with bad engraving. Tiffany Dewey medals said Tiffany and had a locking catch.

Wade16 Posted May 11, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted May 11, 2020 Other than the engraving, what are other features that would indicate a fake?
Dave Posted May 11, 2020 Share #6 Posted May 11, 2020 I always like screenshots of the auctions because these pieces often come back up for sale, again and again...when they are supposedly "sold".

Javelin4life Posted May 12, 2020 Share #8 Posted May 12, 2020 Originals have two major tell tell features- thick planchet rings and even, rim impressed lettering on the rim. No example of the Dewey was ever engraved, and later examples have much larger and thinner suspension rings.
