Persian Gulf Command Posted May 7, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 7, 2020 Obtained a really interesting item related to Ordnance. Its a WW2 Fiber Shipping Tube for a 75mm M48 H.E. round that was awarded to Cub Scout Pack 70 in April 1945. Apparently these were given to the Boy Scouts for collecting 1,000 pounds of scrap paper for the war effort. Any one else ever seen these or have them in your collection? Brian Keith Posted May 10, 2020 Share #3 Posted May 10, 2020 That is an excellent find! Wartime packing tubes are scarce, this one has added interest (to some people anyway) with the "Home Front" Eisenhower award. With the printed information, it looks to me to have actually had a shell packed in it. Likely recovered from a training range and recycled. I found a similar one once that was a packing tube for a grenade, it had info on how to use it for shipping scrap gold to a company and they would buy it. Sword to Plowshares! Thanks for posting it.
