collector Posted May 5, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 5, 2020 I am not very familiar with Army patches so some help is appreciated. Here are my Uncle John's patches. I'm going to post his DD214 as well. I recognize the two bullion AAF patches and the 5th Army patch. He was an Airplane and Engine Mechanic 747, and was at the Aleutians. Do those wing patches indicate any particular unit? His discharge papers say 554th AAF BU, but I can't find anything that links that to the 5th Army or the Aleutians. Thanks

KurtA Posted May 5, 2020 Share #4 Posted May 5, 2020 The 5th "Division" (not 5th "Army") was an ETO unit, so probably not related to your uncle's service. The two AAF HQ patches are of typical of CBI (India) construction.
collector Posted May 16, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted May 16, 2020 Thanks Hellcat_0413 and KurtA. The AAF HQ patches were made in India, or does that mean something else?
