jeff41st Posted May 2, 2020 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2020 Was wondering if I could get some opinions on what the marking on this M1 fixed bail helmet represents? Has a symbol in the shape of a Y on the front. Not sure if there might have been more to the symbol than this at one time. Any ideas as to what it represents and have you seen other helmets with markings like this or similar to this? Thanks Jeff
manayunkman Posted May 2, 2020 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2020 Is there more? Looks like a white line over the top of it and something like a rank was removed from the front.
jeff41st Posted May 2, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted May 2, 2020 That's all there is as far as painted markings. There is a soldiers name and other information stenciled on the side, but its very hard to read.
manayunkman Posted May 2, 2020 Share #4 Posted May 2, 2020 That name stencil is most often US Navy.
jeff41st Posted May 2, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted May 2, 2020 Interesting. So maybe it's a Navy helmet. Hard to read exactly, but i thought i could make out "INF" under the name so i assumed that stood for infantry.
