skir Posted April 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2020 Some in the collecting world might have known Mike, He was a long time collector of Parachute and Combat Swimmer items. Mike passed away early this morning in at his home. For those who did not know him,he was a true bad rump, but the most humble guy you would ever meet. Mike started his career by joining the Special Forces in the late 70s, assigned to the 10th SFG where he served in Berlin. Mike then left the service to go to school on the GI bill, where he became a psychologist and an MD. Mike then joined the US Navy medical department as a psychologist . Mike was assigned to NAB Little Creek, where I had the pleasure of meeting him. At the time, the Marine Underwater Reaserch Group (later known as DevGru ) was forming and was asked by Capt.Richard Marcinko to join the group. With his SF background, medical and head shrinking abilities,he was the perfect fit and jumped at the opportunity. After a trip to BUDS to get his underwater training, Mike became the the medical officer of ST 6, known to all as Mike the Psych. After a few scrapes in Grenada, Italy and a few places that most will never know, Mike retired from the USN. He wasn't finished yet, Mike then Joined the State Department as a CO. Mike was involved in the first Afghan war where most of his work is still classified . Always the collector, Mike brought back so phenomenal stuff, a 32.auto Bersa given to him by Northern Commander Masood, the original dies for Afghan parachute wings, (liberated by his afghan counterparts for the state mint as a going away gift) and a ton of other stuff. Mike then was to go to Baghdad, but the gulf war got in the way so no need for embassy people there. Mike then came back to the US where he became a CO instructor. Mike finally retired retired and moved to the sunny south. Mike is survived by his wife Julie and 2 sons, the oldest a Navy JAG officer and the youngest ,a Army Paratrooper. Go with God brother frog, I'll be along at some point and be with the boys again.
