LINEAGE. Constituted 390th Bombardment Squadron (Medium) on 4 Mar 1942. Activated on 20 Mar 1942. Inactivated on 27 Jan 1946.

ASSIGNMENTS. 42d Bombardment Group, 20 Mar 1942-27 Jan 1946.

STATIONS. Gowen Field, Idaho, 20 Mar 1942; McChord Field, Wash, 20 Mar 1942-15 Mar 1943; New Caledonia, 15 Apr 1943; Fiji Islands, 23 Apr 1943; Guadalcanal, 11 May 1943; Russell Islands, 22 Oct 1943 (operated from Stirling Island, 8 Mar-8 May 1944, and 17 Jun-24 Jul 1944); Hollandia, New Guinea, c. 7 Aug 1944; Sansapor, New Guinea, 23 Aug 194.4 (operated from Morotai, 24 Feb-c. 20 Mar 1945); Puerto Princesa, Palawan, c. 21 Mar 1945-27 Jan 1946.

AIRCRAFT. B-18, 1942; A-29, 1942; B-26, 1942-1943; B-25, 1942-1945.

OPERATIONS. Antisubmarine patrols, Mar 1942-Mar 1943; combat in South and Southwest Pacific, 25 Jun 1943-22 Jul 1944, 3 Sep 1944-14 Aug 1945.

CAMPAIGNS. Antisubmarine, American Theater; China Defensive; New Guinea; Northern Solomons; Bismarck Archipelago; Western Pacific; Leyte; Luzon; Southern Philippines; China Offensive.

EMBLEM. Over and through a light pastel blue green disc, a caricatured, black wolf holding a yellow dagger with red handle in the mouth, a revolver being fired, proper, in the right hand, and a large gray cannon fired at the muzzle, proper, under the left arm, while standing on top of twin, light red, aircraft engine nacelles, in flight toward dexter, banded together by a large yellow rope and supporting a blue aerial bomb, banded white. (Approved 8 Mar 1945.)

The 390th Bomb Squadron was assigned to the 42nd Bomb Group in 1942, joined in 1943 by several squadrons from the 38th Bomb Group.
