17th Armored Engineer Battalion which supported the 2nd Armored Division.  Notice the armored insignia painted on their liners.  I do not remember which website this picture came from and thus cannot cite it.

17th was an Organic part of 2AD not an attachment

Could be a cover made from German Parachute material, there was a topic discussing this, but we can't find it, it might of been deleted.

Looks fairly new issue helmet as little to no wear to the cork. Also swivel bale seen.

I don’t often see soldiers on a beach getting ON a landing craft. Not sure, but is that a M1917 helmet  I see?

You had to have some real stones to wear a Waffen-SS Kharkov parka around a war zone. Twitchy trigger fingers would've dissuaded most.

Or one of the several Japanese sun helmets…I do see a Arisaka on a shoulder getting on the craft
