Wharfmaster Posted April 8, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2020 Does anyone remember the exact year the Government sold the very large lot of named defective / screwed up Purple Hearts and other medals to the public as scrap ? Was it in the 1990s ??? Thanks, Wharf

Bruce Linz Posted April 8, 2020 Share #3 Posted April 8, 2020 Wharf, I know here in Memphis that the Memphis Defense Depot used to sell some scraped medals through the Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO) until it closed in 1997. A bunch of poorly engraved Purple Hearts and other medals were sold in the early 1990's to someone in west Tennessee who would then sell those Purple Hearts as originals. These were generally the medals with the least noticeable errors, like the engraving being off centered. Lots of local collectors got burned. Ah the good old days.
