daskrieg Posted April 6, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 6, 2020 I own many WWII US uniforms with ribbon bars, I see on the inside some have the ghost of pin backs and some have the ghost of clasps. My question is, when was the change from pin back to clasps? I need several different ribbons and I just want to purchase the proper ones. Any help is appreciated. Brig Posted April 6, 2020 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2020 During WWII, so either type would be correct on WWII uniforms
MattS Posted April 6, 2020 Share #3 Posted April 6, 2020 Early in the war pin-backs were more common, by the end clutch backs were (my observation anyway).
daskrieg Posted April 6, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted April 6, 2020 Does anybody know when the change occurred?
Allan H. Posted April 7, 2020 Share #5 Posted April 7, 2020 There is no official change date on clutch back versus pin back insignia. Believe it or not, clutch back insignia goes back well before World War II. Soldiers used what was available to them. You can even find ribbon racks with both pin backs and clutches.
