Capt.Case Posted April 3, 2020 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2020 Have a guard marked Camillus , NY U.S.M.C. Mark 2 which has a plated blade. Blade, guard and pommel all appear to be plated. It has a pinned pommel. Near the tip some of the plating has worn away. Anyone know if this is considered the UDT knife? Thank you, Rocco
thorin6 Posted April 3, 2020 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2020 Not a UDT knife, not sure why it's plated.

mikedon Posted April 4, 2020 Share #4 Posted April 4, 2020 It is a legitimate WWII knife. It is shown on page 393 of Bill Walters new book and Frank Trzaska has mentioned it in his articles. Knife World, January 2006: "They made the guard marked chrome plated knives for the Naval Advanced Base units as well as models with M3 handles, M3 pommels and plastic Mark 1 pommels as experimental." thorin6 Posted April 4, 2020 Share #6 Posted April 4, 2020 I notice that Bill Walters uses the term rare. A nice find whatever it's use.
Capt.Case Posted April 4, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted April 4, 2020 Rare is always nice. I haven't purchased his book yet, I would like to , very pricey.
sactroop Posted April 4, 2020 Share #8 Posted April 4, 2020 Yes, but it will only get more expensive when it's out of print. Our own Gary Cunningham's last book was a bargain at under forty dollars retail. Now that's it's out of print, I've seen it sell at open auction for over $300 a few times. Capt.Case Posted April 4, 2020 Author Share #10 Posted April 4, 2020 I may have to pull the trigger on it. Does book two include all of book One's information?
mikedon Posted April 4, 2020 Share #11 Posted April 4, 2020 No, they are 2 separate books but I think he has a special price if you buy both. I found this on Frank's website: U.S. and ALLIED MILITARY KNIVES WORLD WAR II, Book Two is now available. Book Two at 676 pages is about 2 ¼” thick. The full page, color photos of the knives and sheaths are excellent. The book quality is outstanding. The cost of the book including shipping in the US is $217. PLEASE NOTE! IF YOU DIDN’T GET A COPY OF BOOK ONE OR WOULD JUST LIKE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER COPY, I WILL INCLUDE A COPY OF BOOK ONE FOR THE WHOLESALE COST OF $65, when purchased with BOOK TWO. THE TOTAL COST FOR BOTH BOOK ONE AND BOOK TWO IS $282 SHIPPED in the US. To purchase, contact the Bill at billwalters1948@gmail.com or call 502-245-5466.
