Several WWI Post Cards and Photos

Here are a few post cards and photos I’ve found over the years. It is interesting to read the messages on the back of the cards. One card dated 1918 was from a soldier in an isolation ward in Jacksonville, FL., it must have been send during the flu epidemic. One WWI German card had a note from an American soldier, stating that he had taken the card from a German home in 1945. The large portrait of the WWI aviator, had a touching inscription from his mother stating how he had been killed in a training accident in Texas. I really like the photo of the soldiers playing cards.

Nice glimpses into the past.

 

The devil may care, pipe smoking, Highlander, the G.I.s playing cards (swear I've seen that in the forum somewhere else), the paratrooper glamor shot - they collectively make a mosaic of 20th century history.

 

The mother's note must be especially bittersweet.
