hawk3370 Posted March 27, 2020 Share #3 Posted March 27, 2020 My opinion they are fake. Don't like the rivets holding the US, pin appears to be incorrect for a tiffany. Edges of wing are not sharp like a struck wing should be.

Gerradtgrant Posted March 27, 2020 Share #6 Posted March 27, 2020 The U and the S don't appear to be the same size and are applied crooked. Would Tiffany produce something like this in the early 1900's? I would think not, as they had a reputation to uphold, but I am not an expert on wings. cwnorma Posted March 27, 2020 Share #7 Posted March 27, 2020 Without better pics it's impossible to know X2 Blind Pew, Do you have it in hand? The first thing that jumps out at me is what Gerradtgrant noted. The US does indeed appear crooked. Tiffany was a high end jeweler and it would be a bit unusual that these could/would have passed John C Moore's inspection. That said, there are known examples of Tiffany wares that failed inspection that walked; "out the back door." The crooked US weighs against it. Of note is the fact that this is a 2 1/2 inch badge. The smaller, sweetheart badges are less commonly faked so that is a factor generally weighing in its favor. The hinge and clasp appear correct for Tiffany badges. The pin does seem thicker than most but on its own, doesn't concern me. The hardware seems to weigh in favor. Regardless, like Patrick, I would want many and far better photos to make a judgement call. I would be looking for; crispness in the design. The quality of the rivet work (are they gold or silver?). Is the US itself even gold? If possible I would want to compare it to another known good badge side by side. This ones a tough one to make a definitive call based on the information visible here. Chris Thanks Chris! I dont have these in hand. They are an eBay job, but not the ones sold by the known faker. So I dont have them in hand. When I compare them to my full size Tiffany wings, they dont look bad. However, my experience and knowledge is quite limited to make a call on them. There is an additional shot of the reverse with the maker mark which I could not post (image too large). It is listed for $500, which I thought was high for smaller wings, otherwise I would have bought them just to see closely. Those bomber wings paid off at a decent price, so what the heck!
