Calflash Posted March 26, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2020 What was the finish on a Type III scabbard? The one I picked up is black paint and rust but I don't think either is correct. Question number two, "restore" or leave it?
thorin6 Posted March 26, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 26, 2020 In the forties and fifties the Cadets at West Point carried Krag bayonets for drill. The scabbards were painted black so they could be maintained easier.

Calflash Posted March 26, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted March 26, 2020 Thanks gentlemen. Clean it up or leave it as is?
thorin6 Posted March 26, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 26, 2020 Depends on what you want it for. I have one of the Cadet Krags with screws instead of rivets for the wood grips and the scabbard painted black. If you want one as a Cadet piece, then leave it alone. If you are looking for a scabbard and bayonet to display with a Krag rifle, then clean it up.
