garrettbragg12 Posted March 22, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 22, 2020 I recently picked up this cap for about $45 and was hoping y’all could tell me a bit about it? There are a few stamps, one looks like a manufacturer stamp but it’s a bit too faded to read. The second I thought might be a laundry stamp? Any info would be great, thanks guys! phantomfixer Posted March 22, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 22, 2020 Looks to be an EM service cap post war by the material...
Allan H. Posted March 23, 2020 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2020 This appears to be a standard, WWII army enlisted man's visor cap. It could have been issued to a soldier in any of the army branches- AAF, armor, infantry, etc... Allan
manayunkman Posted March 23, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2020 I second those identifications.

It could have been issued to a soldier in any of the army branches- AAF, armor, infantry, etc... Allan Thank you for the info! A few questions for you: 1. By “enlisted man” would that be non-officers? 2. Is it possible to tell if this cap is WWII era or post WWII? 3. What is the “K-“ number in the cap? It seems to be stamped and written in. Thanks again!
Allan H. Posted March 23, 2020 Share #6 Posted March 23, 2020 To answer your questions- 1) Yes. Non officers. Officer's caps have a woven band around the base of the cap and a larger eagle device. 2) The cap is WWII era. It predates the 1947 pattern cap. The pre-war enlisted visor cap had a darker bill and chinstrap. 3) The "K" number is the soldier's laundry mark. K would be the first letter of his last name and the four numbers would be the last four digits of his serial number. Allan
MattS Posted March 23, 2020 Share #7 Posted March 23, 2020 That laundry number has 39 possibilities. https://wwii-enlistment.com/search/?q=K5697&select=laundryNumber&quick-search=

Would have been cool to have the last name written on the cap or something. Thank you!
MattS Posted March 24, 2020 Share #10 Posted March 24, 2020 So close but so far! Would have been cool to have the last name written on the cap or something. Thank you Sometimes you can cross-reference where you found the cap with the enlistments from that area and get lucky. But without a last name it will be difficult to determine 100%. I’m glad the photos from 2015 survived the photobucket change. Really cool seeing them NOS out of the wrap like that!
