louie Posted April 12, 2020 Share #26 Posted April 12, 2020 If you look up the pictures of soldiers in basic, Air Forces type you will still see them using blouse in 1946 at least. They were still issued in basic it seems until the QM ran out of them, and then the Ikes started to be issued. Look up Air Force Basic graduation pics from the 46-49 era to see all kinds of combinations being worn.
patches Posted April 13, 2020 Share #27 Posted April 13, 2020 Here's the IKE in Nippn,, October 1945 in The Cav, a Battalion of the 5th Cav, that officer I believe is the battalion commander, note how he neither wears Infantry BOS insignia nor a CIB, one of the curious features of The Cav in this period. patches Posted October 10, 2020 Share #30 Posted October 10, 2020 The WWII Overcoat again post WWII, not sure on unit or if these two are trainees as we see the Army Service Forces patch (Technical and Administrative Services as of June 1946) on the one, photo is presumably from sometime in 1951, because the man with the rifle is Whitey Ford, Ford the New York Yankees great, he was already on the team when he was drafted, says served from 1951 to 52, but really served probably till early 53 as a two year draftee, however no further info is on him when he was in. Whitey passed yesterday at 91.
patches Posted November 10, 2020 Share #31 Posted November 10, 2020 Found this Ike with the new Blue SHAEF patch as a "Combat" patch, in this case I would be inclined to think this VI Corps vet wore it in the manner of those other higher command types, 3rd Army, Allied Airborne Army, HQ ETO etc etc.
