Brian Keith Posted March 8, 2020 #1 Posted March 8, 2020 I came across this photo in a grouping to a retired submariner and wondered if anybody could tell me what sub it was. I have information that he served on the following subs: USS Requin (SS-481), USS Carp (SS-338), USS James Madison (SSBN 627) USS Daniel Webster (SSBN 626) USS Von Steuben (SSBN 632). Thanks for looking and for any information. BKW
mikie Posted March 8, 2020 #2 Posted March 8, 2020 Sorry, no idea what sub that is. But that is an awesome paint job! Hope someone here can ID it.
Salvage Sailor Posted March 8, 2020 #3 Posted March 8, 2020 USS VON STEUBEN (SSBN-632) Von Steuben (SSBN-632), as "JAWS" in dry dock during the first non-CONUS, non-refueling, overhaul in Holy Loch Scotland, circa 1970's.
Brian Keith Posted March 8, 2020 Author #4 Posted March 8, 2020 Thanks for the responses and the answer plus an additional photo. I guess I should post this from the group: What does the reference, GOLD mean? Thanks! BKW
Salvage Sailor Posted March 8, 2020 #5 Posted March 8, 2020 GOLD Crew - Boomers had alternating Blue & Gold crews to keep them at sea around the clock as part of the Nuclear Triad - Cold War Nice that he was a COB, we have a new topic on Chief of the Boat here
