I came across this photo in a grouping to a retired submariner and wondered if anybody could tell me what sub it was. I have information that he served on the following subs: USS Requin (SS-481), USS Carp (SS-338), USS James Madison (SSBN 627) USS Daniel Webster (SSBN 626) USS Von Steuben (SSBN 632).

Thanks for looking and for any information.

Sorry, no idea what sub that is. But that is an awesome paint job! Hope someone here can ID it.

USS VON STEUBEN (SSBN-632)

Von Steuben (SSBN-632), as "JAWS" in dry dock during the first non-CONUS, non-refueling, overhaul in Holy Loch Scotland, circa 1970's.

Thanks for the responses and the answer plus an additional photo.

I guess I should post this from the group:

What does the reference, GOLD mean?

Thanks!

This was one more story in an amazing story of our Navy during the Cold War
