Opinions on Uniform. Civil War or Indian Wars?

Recommended Posts

This is a tintype that is pretty big for its time. It is 8.5 x 6.5 inches. Based on the uniform can anyone tell if this Civil War era or Indian Wars. Thanks

Civil war frock coat. 9 button front, infantry piping at the cuffs if you look close.

Always interested in the 166th Infantry, 42nd Division, A.E.F.

Quality WW1 studio portraits and real photo postcards of Distinguished Service Cross recipients; showing steel helmets; or other interesting content.

Agree that it is a Civil War uniform.

The photograph is most likely a post war copy image--fuzzy/ not sharp focus to details and heavy paint or coloration.

Creating larger images (blow ups) of Civil War images was a big part of the work of the typical late 19th photo studio.

The image is sharper and clearer than seen in the pictures. It is in a frame and I was trying to take pics through the glass without showing any reflection.
