Named Purple Heart - believed to be a WWI WIA

I have had this medal for some time, but have had little success in getting information on it. I recently found the attached grave marker on Find a grave and this is the only military hit I have found on the name. Any help or opinions welcome.

The middle initial is significant in this case. Typically if the initial is missing on the engraved medal, it means the man didnt have one. I think it probably belonged to the WWII vet

Thank you, I think you are correct that mine is for the WWII soldier as the spelling is St. Clair on the medal which matches the name on the record. Now if I can find something out about him.

Looks like he might have been a Hoosier! From the 1930 census

 

Full Name St Clair, Darwin Family Number 261 Age 17 Estimated Birth Year 1913 Residence VANDERBURG, Indiana
