Costa Posted March 2, 2020 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2020 early Meyer Metal aviator---------- about 150 to 250.00 in that condition (my opinion) nice find. DONT CLEAN IT!
rathbonemuseum.com Posted March 2, 2020 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2020 Don't mean to differ from Costa but that verdigris is a problem. The underlying brass has a high copper content and at some point moisture has reacted to it. It will continue to eat into and pit the metal unless it is removed. That will affect the patina and make it uneven. If it was mine I would try and clean and polish the whole thing to get it back to solid state hoping it would have a fairly even color and finish. In current condition I would not pay more than $45 for this example. While patina is desirable and matters, this is something else. My 2 cents. pfrost Posted March 3, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 3, 2020 You'll wanna hit that with some brasso and a steel wire buffing wheel!
rathbonemuseum.com Posted March 4, 2020 Share #6 Posted March 4, 2020 Very funny Patrick! Here is a good article that describes a mild and non-invasive method to remove the green corrosion. Would not change the patina of the badge too much. https://www.hunker.com/13420086/how-to-remove-verdigris T
