Old Crow 1986 Posted March 1, 2020 Share #3 Posted March 1, 2020 Thanks for sharing this artifact and the wonderful sentiment. I am assuming this to be a reference to World War II and the generation of Americans who were called to help save the world from a new dark age. Wherever one falls along the spectrum of religious beliefs no one can deny the clarity and the correctness of "The tragic calamity that has befallen the nations of the earth in the years of your youth has picked you up and completely altered the circumstances of your life. But you still belong to us and to your loved ones..." Thanks again for sharing.
prestoncohunter Posted March 1, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted March 1, 2020 Yes it would be WWII. Got to admit I got a bit of a lump in my throat when I read that opening page and thought of my Father in law and his twin brother both joining the Navy when they were 17 years old.
