Hello Gent's,

I am reading "Combat Flying Clothing" by C.G. Sweeting and in the section for Head Gear they mention the A-10 flight helmet but do not show a picture of one. I used my Bing Fu and my Goggle Chi and did not find a pic of one. It says that it replaced the AN-H-15 as the standard AAF summer flying helmet, and the AN-H-15 became substitute standard.

I have the A-9, A-11 and the AN-H-15.

If I'm missing one, could you let me know what it looks like?

I do apoloigize, I was at work when I was reading that book and I did a search on line and even checked here in the search engine to see if I could find one posted and there were none. So I asked.

You are correct Sir, I just checked my copy of Gear Up and it is there.

Next time I'll hold my questions until I get home and check out my other references.

I have a AN-H-15 that I got because of the left waist gunner of my Uncle's (Tail Gunner) B-17 when they were shot down, He told me he was wearing the cloth flight helmet with the big black ear pads. When I read the description of the A-10, I was wondering if I got the wrong one, I kind of started to doubt what I had gotten. But after reading Gear Up it said the A-10 was standardized in July of 1944. They were shot down in April of 1944, So I do have the right one

Once again, Sorry I did not check further before asking.

Thank you for that answer.

They almost could be identical things, just a visual difference being the rear straps: leather for the AN-H-15 (and its parallel development for the USN, AN-6540 and AN-6542), cloth for the A-10 / A-10A.

To next one - Franco.

Yes they could be almost identical. Just a minor detail and with a memory of over 70 year ago,, They both matched his description.

Thank you Franco.
