IWO JIMA 75 YEARS ANNIVERSARY, A TRIBUTE

I have always been drawn to the battle of Iwo Jima and I always tried to put items attributed to it aside over the years.

I thought what better time to post some of the items as a way to pay tribute to the men who fought and died in one of bloodiest battles in US history, then on the 75th. anniversary.

I will try to post more items over the next couple of days as time permits

I would also encourage the other members to share their Iwo Jima items as well.

Thanks to all who served!

Ken

Helmet owned by Lt. Donald M. Walker, Executive Officer UDT#13(Underwater Demolition Team). Earned a Silver star for actions on Iwo Jima. Named helmet and liner came with signed book "Movies On The Fantail" that he presented to a neighbor.

Helmet purchased off the owner by me. Owner was a Marine in the 4Th Marine Division and wore this helmet when he landed at Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He is still alive today.

At first glance it looks like the brown/beach side camo is out on the helmet but it is actually a very faded green/jungle side.

Camo cover is named but to a different Marine.

Awesome memorabilia, Iwo has always been one of my interests as well as Tarawa. When I was stationed at CPMCB CA. back in the 90's I saw quite a bit of bring back items as well.
