aznation Posted February 20, 2020 Share #32 Posted February 20, 2020 Posted Today, 07:31 PM Boy did he see his share and then some. Died to early. Totally agree with that. He was one busy soldier for sure. I think that would be a great helmet to have and I don't know that much about helmets. Just because it belonged to that soldier. everforward Posted February 20, 2020 Share #33 Posted February 20, 2020 Pretty impressive career, although he must not have seen any combat in VN for he’s not on the three-time CIB recipient list....thought for sure he’d have been there.
Pudgy (V) Posted February 20, 2020 Author Share #34 Posted February 20, 2020 Here is the post I found. The picture is from Bougainville. The photo reducer wasn't reducing the photo properly, that is why I made the photo smaller from the original post. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/242145-ww2-navy-helmet-with-stripe-and-star-on-ebay/

The Rooster Posted February 20, 2020 Share #39 Posted February 20, 2020 Great helmet!! Nice research Matt ! That guy went through a lot. Its a shame he didnt get to retire. Awesome helmet. He may not have a CIB for Vietnam but I bet he drove truckloads of ammo to the artlliery units. WW2 Korea Vietnam ! My First Sergeant in my old Guard unit was a Vet of WW2 Korea Vietnam. Those guys were tough and wise. Awesome Helmet. A memorial to the Man.

Pudgy (V) Posted May 4, 2020 Author Share #41 Posted May 4, 2020 I had to buy this liner, it's another star painted helmet/liner. Thought I would renew the post. Would be nice to know the meaning of it. Does anyone else have any they can post here.
Pudgy (V) Posted May 4, 2020 Author Share #42 Posted May 4, 2020 Not sure why that last picture looked weird. I posted it again.
manayunkman Posted May 5, 2020 Share #43 Posted May 5, 2020 I doubt the painted star was used for aerial recognition. The blue paint blends in to well and from a short distance would disappear, never mind seeing it from an airplane. It has a 1960s look to me. Whether it was done by him or one of his kids will be hard to figure out. Thanks to AzN. you have a list of next of kin and perhaps you can track one down and get some enlightenment. Seems like a lot of work but it could prove fruitful.
