Help with WWI Accolade

Recommended Posts

I recently acquired a Columbia Accolade awarded to Pvt Alton H. Fisher of the 58th Infantry. Two requests,

1: Can anyone help me with information regarding the soldier?

2: The accolade is colorized (sorry I can't upload a picture. Can anyone educate me on such an accolade?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

I have never seen a wounded Columbia accolade colorized. Usually they are black and white lithographs with a thick white boarder.

There is a French decoration that is colorized.

Wanted: Missouri Medals

I am always in search of Missouri Medals and Items. This could be anything from WW1, WW2, Prisoners of War, Ephemera, or anything pertaining to Missourians.

I thank you for your time and consideration.

Wow. That is colorized, I've never seen that. Well the accolades comes in wounded in action and died in service variants. So WIA/KIA. They are usually a black and white lithograph so to see one colored is interesting. They also tend to have a boarder that is a few inches thick that goes around the edge of the image. It's common to see these cut down so they were easier to fit into a frame. The WIA variety made you eligible for a Purple Heart when it was established. You can see these as the precursor to the Purple Heart. So it's neat to see these as they are unique to WW1.

WWII Old Man's Draft Registration

Note that this shows he has scars on the left side of his body matching the description of the November 1, 1918 newspaper article showing he was severely wounded on the left side by machine gun bullets.
