double canister Posted February 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2020 A friend uncovered this in his rural Iowa backyard. I can't find it in my (limited) reference library. Any help is most appreciated. I haven't seen it in person. Pictures to follow.

268th C.A. Posted February 14, 2020 Share #5 Posted February 14, 2020 Militia Brest Plate ? Nice Find!
dunmore1774 Posted February 15, 2020 Share #6 Posted February 15, 2020 The design reminds me of shako hat plates from War of 1812 era, but that piece looks to be smaller and of heavier construction than most shako plates I've seen.

268th C.A. Posted February 19, 2020 Share #8 Posted February 19, 2020 I agree its too heavy to be a shako plate, its a brest plate IMO. typical construction, the cannon would also lean me towards Artillery. Still a beautiful plate.
Duggap Posted March 10, 2022 Share #9 Posted March 10, 2022 I'm going to take a stab at this one. https://timesavers.com/i-8948573-kitchen-clock-eagle-pendulum.html Check out this site. I believe what you have is the base off an antique clock pendulum.
albatrosdva Posted March 20, 2022 Share #10 Posted March 20, 2022 Duggap, you are correct. You can see on the back of the pendulum that it had/has a place for the pin to go through. Would have a loop on the top for the hook and a threaded piece and nut on the bottom to speed up or slow down the clock. Very interesting piece. Steve Rogers Posted May 3, 2022 Share #12 Posted May 3, 2022 Probably from one of the Ingraham Clock Company's Army-Navy Series commemorating the Spanish American War. See the close up of the pendulum in this listing: https://www.horsesoldier.com/products/personal-items/39532
