cerick1450 Posted February 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2020 Hello I came across this strange Plastic coated good conduct ribbon bar today. I is a clutch back type with Phinney clutches. It is Maker Marked Pat Pending and U.S. Abgeles (sp?) Any Idea as to era this was made and has anyone seen many of these.. Thank you..
Flashlarue Posted February 14, 2020 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2020 Bottom line is Los Angeles
TheMariner Posted February 14, 2020 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2020 Just a normal wolf brown ribbon, bottom line is Los Angeles. WW2 Period ribbon. coating texture could change from being exposed to heat/cold which is most likely the case!
patches Posted February 14, 2020 Share #4 Posted February 14, 2020 That's an early Wolf Brown ribbon, WOLF BROWN in the center. They would eventually drop the PATENT PENDING and go with this.
patches Posted February 14, 2020 Share #5 Posted February 14, 2020 I have to say that that is a odd mount, like a paper clip, don't think I seen something like that before.
cerick1450 Posted February 14, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted February 14, 2020 Thank you for the help.. I also was confused by the mount. It caught my eye with the Phinney clutches.. I also, have never seen this type before..
Indexred Posted February 14, 2020 Share #7 Posted February 14, 2020 Interesting mount. Ive seen this once before. As aside, Wolf-Brown had patented, proprietary mounts and clutches, very different from that shown here. If a serviceman didnt have the correct mount. One had to improvise to create something that you fit.
11/17thark Posted February 14, 2020 Share #8 Posted February 14, 2020 The mount is correct. It's one of the two types, used by Wolf-Brown.
Indexred Posted February 14, 2020 Share #9 Posted February 14, 2020 The mount is correct. It's one of the two types, used by Wolf-Brown. Did Wolf-Brown actually make the type shown here? Ive never found any documentation on them. Its definitely an inferior design compared to their patented design. I have one of these wire mounts on a Wolf-Brown SSM ribbon, and its misshapen like the GC ribbon seen here.
patches Posted February 14, 2020 Share #10 Posted February 14, 2020 The Wolf Brown mounts I have are White metal clutch backs, you know Double or Triple mounts, these I presume will be late 40s on.
cerick1450 Posted February 14, 2020 Author Share #11 Posted February 14, 2020 The Phinney Clutches I have seen in use are usually associated with pre-war or early war Items. Not sure if this is always the case though..
Allan H. Posted February 14, 2020 Share #12 Posted February 14, 2020 I believe that the brass wire "bar" is actually earlier than the aluminum mounting bars. Allan
