I had a chance a few months back to go through the U-505 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Very cool place. If you're ever in the area, I would highly recommend it. The tour feels a bit rushed, but you don't get many chances to go inside a German U-boat especially given that this is the only one in the U.S. Below is a video of my visit.

Great video, thank you!

I went on board the U-505 back in 1977 when I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base. Back then the U-505 was still outdoors and there was no "tour", you just got to wander through the boat alone. I went back in 2018, the museum is fabulous and very well done, but as James said, you don't get to spend much time inside the submarine itself on the tour.

I also have a commemorative from the dedication when the U-505 was brought to Chicago in 1954.

Great history video Thanks for posting. . In 1945/46 the U-505 was in New York City, open to the public and my Dad took me on a tour. One of the things that I'm sure influenced my life-long interest in military history. Bobgee
