Camo FS swivel bail

Recommended Posts

Saw this today. I have my doubts the camo is ww2 Original or evening Original at all for a few reasons I see. Cant see the heat stamp too well but I think it says 81C or something like that. Any help is appreciated.

It has nam era chinstraps and looks to be a brown painted over green then the spots were removed exposing the green, definitely not a ww2 paint job most likely done after vietnam sometime are my thoughts....mike

Always looking for and buying 50's era 11th Airborne/ 187th ARCT/ 82nd Airborne tac mark painted jump helmets!

It's a front seam shell that most likely originally had fixed bales and sewn-on khaki straps when it came out of the factory during WW2. It stayed in the supply system for decades and was reworked in the 1960s with new straps. I can't tell when it was repainted.

this much I will say----------- I have seen some weird camo colors on nam pots that you would swear some kid did a fantasy job on it but, it turned out to be 100% nam.

I dont like all the painted over dents.

A recycled WWII helmet could have a painted over dent if the paint was applied 20+ years after it was manufactured.

What's your opinion on the paint? Looks vintage and old to me. Could it have been used in the 60s or 70s?

True, a 'field repaint' probably wouldn't go through the trouble of removing every dent first.

If they painted it and then put it away.

Possibly

Or painted it and then put a cover over it?

I once had a similar painted USMC helmet. Camo was different but base color very close.

I believe the owner said he got it out a house of a Vietnam vet. There is brown paint over the original chips of missing paint

I have to agree with many of the other posters. It in NOT WWII but, I think it has a good chance of being a 60's or even early 70's camo. Was it Vietnam? Could be. Of course, it could be a Reserve or National Guard helmet. Or worse, it could have been done by someone after it got released as surplus?
