cutiger83 Posted February 7, 2020 Share #1 Posted February 7, 2020 Went to an estate sale today and found this WWI toy soldier. This is a very heavy lead construction. The surface is rough not a smooth surface. I believe this is an older toy and not modern but I could be wrong. The paint is vibrant and not faded. I cannot find any type of maker's mark. Can anyone please help me figure out this toy figure? I took a chance and spent $9.00. Not an expensive chance...hahahaha! Thank you in advance for any assistance...Kat Link to comment
Mr.Jerry Posted February 7, 2020 Share #2 Posted February 7, 2020 I think given the roughness and the heaviness he is cast iron. I can't speak to the originality or maker. Link to comment
manayunkman Posted February 7, 2020 Share #3 Posted February 7, 2020 It’s cast iron from the Grey Iron Co. in My Joy, Pa. The particular one you have is of more recent manufacture. Now you need to get them all! Link to comment

manayunkman Posted February 7, 2020 Share #6 Posted February 7, 2020 Here is what they looked like in the 1930s. The one you have is from the 1980 to 90 era during the toy soldier craze. Link to comment

gomorgan Posted February 7, 2020 Share #8 Posted February 7, 2020 Didn't Grey Iron do a series of smaller unpainted figure that look like pre-WWI soldiers? Link to comment
manayunkman Posted February 8, 2020 Share #9 Posted February 8, 2020 Yes they did unpainted soldiers in a smaller scale. You’re welcome Kat, glad to help. Link to comment
gomorgan Posted February 8, 2020 Share #10 Posted February 8, 2020 Thanks for the information, I remember passing on some still tied to the display cards at one of the old Covington Ky. Drawbridge shows, wish I'd of bought some as the dealer had three cards full as I remember. Link to comment
