Italian hat? Wwii or earlier?

It looks like a WWII Canadian Mk III helmet also called the turtle helmet...definitely not US though so they’ll close this thread

It is actually a British Mk III Helmet, and that particular model was never manufactured in Canada. It was also never called a Turtle Helmet. It was used by the Canadian Army for a short time during the SWW.

not looking to argue, and you are correct about it being a British made helmet but it was issued to the 3rd Canadian Division for D-Day and it is often called a “turtle” helmet by many collectors due to its shape, it was never an official term of course.

 

in any case they are an interesting addition to any Commonwealth military collection.
