Thought I would post an early Woodman's Pal LC-14-B along with the saw back version 361-S with a Pat# 2335497 from 1943. Just for comparison. I think the 361-S is for civilian use, although there may be stories.

More information on these interesting tools can be found in this recent thread by member robinb: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/337941-signal-corps-machetes/

The patent for the Woodsman's Pal was filed on 12/11/42 and approved on 11/30/43. Per the 1944 Victor Tools manual, the 361-S ("S" for "saw") was intended for use by surveyors and is a commercial, not military, model.
