otter42 Posted January 20, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 20, 2020 Anyone have any idea where this was made? Thanks
daskrieg Posted January 20, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 20, 2020 Looks like lead. Can you write with it? Simply drag it across a piece of paper and if it looks like a pencil mark it probably is a lead casting.
otter42 Posted January 20, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted January 20, 2020 Dwayne, Yes it's lead. Any idea where this was made, and why are there small round circles on the back? Ken
daskrieg Posted January 20, 2020 Share #4 Posted January 20, 2020 Sorry no clues but when i see lead medals or insignia i just see drawer fillers.
Allan H. Posted January 20, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 20, 2020 This is US made and was what we call "Econ-o-lead." They were made to provide insignia at a low cost out of non-crucial war materials. You will find a lot of insignia made this way to include EG&A devices etc. Allan
otter42 Posted January 21, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted January 21, 2020 Wow, thanks Allan, would never had thought this would be US made, it'sso funky. Just learned something new. Ken

TheMariner Posted January 21, 2020 Share #8 Posted January 21, 2020 Me too..are these items rare or collectable?? No more then any other marksman badge from the era I find them fairly regularly when I buy insignia lots. There does not seem to be any special value attributed to them in the collecting market! daskrieg Posted January 21, 2020 Share #9 Posted January 21, 2020 How can you tell if they are original or if someone just cast lead badges?
TheMariner Posted January 21, 2020 Share #10 Posted January 21, 2020 How can you tell if they are original or if someone just cast lead badges? Wouldn't benefit anyone to do it because they really aren't worth much like I said, a few dollars if that. usually all the ones I see have those round circles on the back
