gcmcc89 Posted January 19, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2020 PM Hi everyone, I got this Kabar a few years back with my grandfather a Vietnam Veteran. When we purchased it he said they had similar ones when he served so I always believed it to be a Vietnam era Kabar however after researching other similar ones I was thinking it might be a WWII era. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
KRIS FORD Posted January 19, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 19, 2020 WW2 all the way, first series even (1944), but many of these were in the system for many years to come.
gcmcc89 Posted January 19, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted January 19, 2020 Thanks Kris! I wish I knew what was imprinted on the sheath but unfortunately it was scratched out before my purchasing it. The GM stamp on the bottom was done by my grandfather to signify it being mine. Never plan to sell it so that’s not a big deal. Would you recommended doing anything to it in terms of bringing back to better shape?

Steve Brannan Posted January 20, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 20, 2020 I was in the Navy during Vietnam and all the Kabar type knives we were issued were made in WW2.
ChuckC Posted January 21, 2020 Share #7 Posted January 21, 2020 Your knife was the first issue in WWII that was recalled because the pommel would break off the tang. The next issue was peened I believe. I have the first issue also, and its a badass knife. Enjoy it! ChuckC

gcmcc89 Posted January 21, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted January 21, 2020 Thank you everyone for the information, I told my grandfather about this yesterday and he was delighted to hear that this knife had an even deeper past than he had originally thought!
