If you dont mind me asking, where did you get this?

I dont mean to be a party pooper, but this is not the one in the picture of Halsey. The wings are different and there are differences in the ribbon construction (last ribbon in yours is wrong). The one in the Navy photos is actually still property if the Navy.

I searched a bit and finally found it: https://www.history.navy.mil/our-collections/artifacts/uniforms-and-personal-equipment/uniforms0/uniform-jacket-of-admiral-william-halsey.html

If not the real mcCoy Could that be for a movie maybe, the gallant hours with Jimmy cagney, it has age to it. But would they go as far as putting his real name in it just for a movie?

Thanks for the replies, just to follow up I have documentation from the person Halsey gave the uniform to back in the 50s. Admin, you are correct the color photo is not my coat. I have studied his uniforms for hours, the reason I believe the photos I posted are of him in the uniform is the last ribbon. On my coat its red blue white, as I believe the ones in my photo is, your color photo is blue white red as it appears on the one the Navy has of his I have attached this photo to better illustrates the color of my ribbon, he tended to wear this color ribbon post 1946, post-3355-0-12969800-1579405742_thumb.jpeg

Using old parts can give age.

As far as movie, I doubt. I just doubt a movie would do a date like it has in the posters jacket.

The ones in the photos you posted look like BLUE-RED-WHITE to me.

Again, not trying to be party pooper.

Admin,

Thanks for the feedback...If you look at the Alamy photo last ribbon first color, do you not think it matches the red in say the WWII victory medal or the ribbon directly above? The blue, red, white doesn’t match the color photo you provided.

The tailor tag was sewn in the coat when it was tailored, no way to remove or add it without destroying the coat. The doctor (halsey’s personal) who received the jacket from Halsey thought enough of it to leave a special request as to who he wanted it to go to in his last will ( along with inscribed photo from Halsey to him) plus a signed 2 page letter sent by the second owner requesting how to care for the coat that ends “thank you for sharing knowledge of this important piece of of Naval heritage and best wishes, I am.. James Cheever’s senior curator, Department of the Navy U.S. Naval Academy Museum”

I have no issue with the coat.

It is truly a piece of important American history! Amazing!

What is the ribbon in question? Neither seem like a perfect fit, but the admiral was awarded both.

In the letter from the Navy Museum they say it’s the Order of merit from Chile...I agree the colors are in the wrong order, but not the first high ranking officer’s ribbon bar I’ve seen with the colors in the wrong order... I still believe the Alamy photo above shows the colors in the order of the coat

Nationalist China - Medal of the Armed Forces - Ribbon is upside down

Bill

I haven’t found that one in any of the web resources, but will keep digging.

this is from the Naval History and Command website:

Navy Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal with three Gold Stars, the Army Distinguished Service Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, Fleet Admiral Halsey had the Mexican Service Medal; Victory Medal, Destroyer Clasp; American Defense Service Medal, Fleet Clasp; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He also was awarded the Gold Cross of the Chevalier of the Order of the Savior, by the Government of Greece; the Insignia, Al Merito, First Class, and Diploma, by the Government of Chile; and was made an Honorary Knight Commander of the British Empire by the Government of Great Britain. On his goodwill tour to South America in 1946 he was awarded the Order of Naval Merit from Cuba; the Order of the Liberator from Venezuela; the Order of Ayacucho from Peru; and Chile's Grand Cross of the Legion of Merit. Ecuador awarded him her highest medal of Abdon Calderon, Colombia and Panama, the Grand Crosses of Boyaca and Balboa, while Guatemala made him a Supreme Chief in the Order of the Quetzal, and he received the Order of the Southern Cross (Grand Cross) from the Government of Brazil.

What a treat to see this great uniform! I just watched "Tora, Tora, Tora" yesterday on TCM so it's especially nice this AM.

BTW that 1970 film is outstanding and I recommend it to any of you younger guys. much better IMHO than "Midway" and of course, "Pear Harbor" Pre- CGI using models and real aircraft. Just my 2-cents. Bobgee
