kpl1 Posted January 16, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2020 Hello I have purchased this nice 1918 marked P17 bayonet with this scabbard, did the US troops in World War 1 used this British style scabbard to? Kind regards
solcarlus Posted January 16, 2020 Share #2 Posted January 16, 2020 Bonjour. The date, on the lame, is a error of the manufacturer. The sheath is not suitable for the wearing of A.E.F. troops. The model of this bayonet is 1917 not 1918. It is the date of this model that must be inscribed. No P17 in the A.E.F. Sol.
GWS Posted January 16, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 16, 2020 I concur. The US M-1917 scabbard, while similar in construction, had a M-1910 hanger (wire hooks) to attach to the cartridge belt. The leather body was painted green also. Your bayonet looks to be in nice condition though.
