Curious as to why the U.S. Shield and no Coat of Arms there, the 37th Engineers dd have one, had one since 1935, my understanding is Colors, the ones with the shield, will be for WWII activated Color Bearing Units that had at that time no Coat of Arms adopted for it at that time.

The Shield is red for engineers. The Rock taken from the Arms of St. Mihiel, and the oak leaves, embelmatic of the Meuse-Argonne, indicated service of the organization in World War I.

The Coat of Arms was originally approved for the 37th Engineers (General Service) on 4 March 1935. It was amended to correct the spelling of the Motto on 3 May 1935. It was redesignated for the 37th Engineer Regiment (Combat) on 27 September 1941. On 30 August 1943, the insignia was redesignated for the 37th Engineer Combat Battalion. The insignia was redesignated for the 37th Engineer Battalion (Combat) on 18 May 1955. The Coat of Arms was redesignated for the 37th Engineer Battalion and amended to include a Crest on 13 May 1987.

The auction lists the QM tag as 1945, which would be way later than that style of eagle should be. That is an early 20s-30s style bird and shield -which would also account for the lack of the crest.

That's a great piece of information, the dates before the Unit Coat's of Arms started be be adopted, Unit Crests and all.

Too bad they didn't post an image of the tag, maybe it should be 1935 rather than 1945, the last color of this unit before they were issued a new one with the coat of arms of the regiment???

Here's an example of a WWI 1920-30s color, in this case Field Artillery, the 333rd Field Artillery Regiment, it was in the reserves post WWI, XVI Corps Artillery in Chicago Illinois.

Can't find a WWI 1920-30s Engineer Regimental Color, that's what I'm really looking for, to compare to see if they have the same design as this one with the Engineer castle over the scroll.

At any rate here's two WWII Enginer Battalion Colors, note no Engineer Castle over the scroll, Count of Arms center of Eagle, and unit motto's on the Eagle's Scroll/Streamer now rather than E Pluribus Unum.
