This was on the discharge of a Staff Sgt that was a member of the 29th Bn of the 7th Reg of the Field Art Repl Center at Fort Sill, with 2 yrs & 7 months of overseas service. It says the overseas destination he went to was “Mercury”, he arrived back in the US on April 10, 1944 & was discharged in September of 45. I think this might have something to do with the Atomic Bomb Project? He only has the American Theatre Medal, ADSM & CGM

Most likely "Mercury" did not involve the Manhattan Project, which was our research into the development of the atomic bomb. The project did not really kick off until mid-1942.

Please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan_Project

The US Navy, and presumably the US Army, used code names for locations during WWII.

According to this website, https://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-room/title-list-alphabetically/g/glossary-of-us-naval-code-words-navexos-p-4740/m.html

"Mercury" was Panama. That might explain his American Theater Medal.
