1874 post civil war buckle original?

I was offered this buckle, guys your thoughts on that Indidan war buckle? Original? m1874 pattern?

The plate looks fine. The only problem with the pattern is dating them precisely since they were used widely by not just the army from 1874, but by National Guard units, cadets, etc., etc., and remained in use for full dress right up to WW2.
