Dogsbody Posted December 30, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2019 Hello everyone, I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject of Guidons so I'm wondering as to what time frame this example can be attributed. As you can see in one of the pics the inside colour of the sleeve is kinda brownish. Is this indicative of post-war Guidons? Also on the QM tag I believe there is a written number. Sometimes is I think I can see 45 but there are times I believe it is 48 (no I'm not drunk and my eyesight is still quite normal ). Could this be an indication of the year it was made/used? Here are some pictures. All thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Rene

nirvana Posted January 1, 2020 Share #3 Posted January 1, 2020 It looks like an original WW2 era flag. HOWEVER, that doesnt mean it dates from that period. The QM used WW2 flags up until the 1960s (in my opinion), so this could represent a later era. Dates were sometimes ink stamped, somethings written. Absent a clear date not much can be said. patches Posted January 2, 2020 Share #5 Posted January 2, 2020 Another thing to always consider when dating these, Infantry ones at least, to make it easier, is that after 1957-58-59, after the Combat Regimental System or CARS restructure, Infantry Guidons will have it's Battalion number on them from then on. patches Posted January 2, 2020 Share #6 Posted January 2, 2020 So this guidon would of been carried no later than the spring of 1959, 1 May 1959, the 137th Infantry now restructured under CARS as the 1st and 2d Battle Groups 137th Infantry 35th Infantry Division, and as such will now include the Battle Group number on the guidon, either a 1 or a 2, plus whatever Company they were.
