7thEvac Posted December 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 26, 2019 Is this a legitimate Civil War sword or a later type? I'm thinking about making an offer on it and wonder what is it's value. Thanks
hink441 Posted December 26, 2019 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2019 Inspector marks "DFM" indicates an M1860 Cavalry Sabre made by Emerson and Silver. Are there any marks anywhere on the scabbard? Chris
Horseclover Posted December 26, 2019 Share #3 Posted December 26, 2019 The scabbard looks like a rusty reproduction and not original to the sword. In general, Tom Nardi's old price guide is still pretty valid but the numbers relate with a proper scabbard. Look at Emerson&Silver 1864 examples on the internet for comparisons. http://swordrestorationtn.com/values.htm I would look elsewhere but that is just me. I would be hard pressed to offer anything, as it just presents as a very troubled piece. The picture of the overall doesn't show anything that would draw me in, even in the $100-$150 range. 7thEvac Posted December 27, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted December 27, 2019 No markings on the scabbard, that I can see.
reschenk Posted December 27, 2019 Share #5 Posted December 27, 2019 Another minus is that the grip appears to have lost its wire wrap.
