This was my favorite helmet pickup this year. I actually got it this past Saturday. It is a front seam fixed bail M1 helmet painted Navy gray. It is named four times in the liner to Robert "Mac" Maclellan. Maclellan drove a landing craft onto Utah beach at Normandy on H-Hour June 6, 1944 and then went to the Philippines and Okinawa for the beach landings there.

Here's my favorite pick up from this year. Post WWII USMC helmet. Matching numbers painted on the helmet, liner, and cover.
Nice and salty but not too salty.
Unfortunately the cover was taken off some time prior to me getting it but I've for it back on as close as I could to how it was originally.

Cap Camouflage Pattern I

I only got one helmet this year, so it would be the best helmet of 2019 regardless but it's a good one. I'm not at home so I cant post a picture but it doesnt matter much as it's just a bare ACH shell, not much to look at but I got it straight from the veteran who wore in Iraq in 2008 with a handshake, hard to beat that.

Front seam / fixed bail McCord, heat lot #52A. Hawley liner. Perfectly matched "Red Patch" beach master set that has been together quite possibly since new. Certainly one of my top finds of the year.

A.E.F helmet that belonged to a Harold Scoggins that served with the 2nd Division and later served as a Chaplain during WW2 in the PTO and was 1 of 100 Chaplains to die during WW2.

Here is mine, it stands out even though I have gotten back into helmets pretty heavily the past year or two and been snatching probably too many up.

Bought it at a militaria flea market in Carentan on 6/6/2019 while in Normandy for the 75th. Later found out it had been posted on the forum about five years ago and was generally seen as authentic, then at some point in between the Euroclone liner chinstrap got added. Had to buy and check an extra suitcase to clear enough carryon space to protect the helmet coming home, but it was worth it.

Given it clearly being a Navy helmet, and the evidence suggesting liner and shell have always been together (wear marks, rust, etc.), I was able to identify a Delbert C. Langley who served on the attack transport USS Dorothea L. Dix, and according to his obituary drove an LCVP at Omaha. He was the only Navy Langley I found in the ETO, IIRC. He later served as the head groundskeeper at the Naval Academy for 27 years. The helmet was apparently found in Normandy according to the seller, so my working theory is he lost it at some point while he was ashore. Every component on the helmet checks out to 1943 and earlier, so the timing certainly works. Nice early fixed bail shell and a transitional Westinghouse liner. I have since added a reproduction green hardware liner chinstrap which rounds it out.

Posting the pictures I took at my hotel in Cherbourg on 6/6 out of laziness, but it is now displayed on a stand and with the aforementioned liner strap.

Burning Hazard

Found this 2nd Lt fixed bail shell and married it to a 2nd Lt liner; it's scary how good of a match they are both color wise and both having a black outline around them.
