Salvage Sailor Posted December 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 21, 2019 Aloha Everyone, We see many USN deck jackets & rain parkas on the forum, but seldom are shown the WWII full length alpaca foul weather parka with hood, circa 1945. These heavy parkas could cover a sailor in uniform from head to just below the knees with wide deep pockets large enough to be used when wearing gloves. There is also a buttoned tab on the rear hem which can be attached to the bottom button on the front to prevent billowing of the foul weather parka in heavy winds and snow drifts. There are matching foul weather overpants for this jacket to fully insulate the sailor (not shown)
Salvage Sailor Posted December 21, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted December 21, 2019 Fully zippered with large exterior buttons, draw strings on the hood and hems Knit sleeves to keep the wind out, large size 42 to fit over uniforms with a 1945 WWII contract number. MastersMate Posted December 22, 2019 Share #3 Posted December 22, 2019 Looks like the USN answer to the Royal Navy Duffle coat for long, cold topside sea watches. Something to go with the arctic deck bib overalls
'Flage Guy Posted December 29, 2019 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2019 That's a very clean example. Some guys refer to these as "the long N-1". Very comfortable and warm!!
dustin Posted December 29, 2019 Share #5 Posted December 29, 2019 The official nomenclature is Coat, Parka, Winter N-1 (officers only) This is a revised version (late production) streamlining the coat. The earlier version had a breast pocket and waist belt. like seen here. Officers got the long over coats whether the N-1 or leather.
