I found this salty photograph in small flea market and immediately decided to buy due to the unusual nature of it (WW1 era US soldier with what appeared to be Mexican nationals in the background). Once at home, I set about to trying to decipher the writing on the back. Here's what I've got.

"Taken at the 'Gap' (the break in the ??) where twice daily mail and passengers are exchanged between the Army and Federal - Mex. I was between the outposts under a flag of truce. In the foreground.." Some other things are written with some words crossed out and ends with "V.C. Mex 5 July 14"

I'm taking "V.C. Mex" is "Vera Cruz, Mexico". According to the University of Google, Vera Cruz was under US occupation during this time so my deciphering makes sense.

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting bit of history from a little know incident.
