ludwigh1980 Posted December 18, 2019 Share #3 Posted December 18, 2019 Very dangerous field for the collector with many fakes now over 40 years old. One really has to specialize and consult with experts, have creditable references to tread in this realm. It seems to me that the prongs may be incorrect for this type and the details of the stamping looks a little less crisp than they should be. I have handled and sold more confederate blades than I ever have the buckles. Buckle and belt plates are much rarer.
ludwigh1980 Posted December 18, 2019 Share #4 Posted December 18, 2019 Leech & Rigdon style should be completely cast with cast hooks bent into place (no lead filler). Original examples fetch into the 5 figures.
Rats of Tobruk Posted December 18, 2019 Share #5 Posted December 18, 2019 Fake. Extremely rare buckle.
6th.MG.BN Posted December 18, 2019 Share #6 Posted December 18, 2019 I saw that too but didn't like the hooks. Ken
dhcoleterracina Posted December 18, 2019 Share #7 Posted December 18, 2019 The seller in his description is already distancing himself from it by saying it's out of his expertise. Just because there are many bidders means little. Such a rare buckle that I wouldn't even consider unless those CW experts like it.

4th Miss Cav Posted December 19, 2019 Share #10 Posted December 19, 2019 He is offering a 14 day no questions asked return policy, so I expect it will be returned in less than 14 days by the buyer.
