Odd - WWI Overseas Cap Named to a US Army Sgt

Hello all,

 

I purchased this over the weekend at an estate sale of a passed WWII US Navy veteran and this is an Overseas Cap named to his father who was a Sgt in the US Army. Sgt "Robert McCall Gilkey".

 

I've looked over all my reference books and other sources and I've not been able to find this style Overseas cover? My best guess is a french made cover used by Sgt Gilkey? Thoughts or any information appreciated.

In this picture I (attempted) to outline the shape of the flaps on the cover incase you can't see the shape. Hope this helps.

Funny, I found the same thread and zero'd in on that same one. Seems the only one close to this style cap.

 

That's a great thread by the way, can't believe I've never came across it before. Makes me want to start another sub-collection of just overseas cover variants. LOL
