It's been some time since my last image.  Here's an MAA badge from the USS DALHGREN.  I would guess the post 1975 DDG-43 but could be DLG-12.

I am looking for a War Department Military Intelligence badge. Any leads?

That's something I don't have.  I find my badges at yard sales, flea markets, estate sales and friends who look out for me.  Maybe Flying Tiger Antiques has one.

Here is a 'Retired Inspector' badge.  Anybody know what this officer would have inspected?  There were a lot of different inspectors and this had different meanings with different departments.

Back when I was in High School a DoD Inspector came in to talk about his career- he talked about investigating government contracts.  I specifically remember him talking about a contractor that was selling SCUBA gear to the Navy from a subcontractor that didn’t meet the specs of the contract, but they were nefariously passing it off as if it did.

No, these three were all purchased separately.  The gold plated breast badge is for a Captain of the Watch according to the 1920 Lighthouse Service regulations: The letters ”U.S Lighthouse Service”, the eagle and lighthouse, and the border of the ornament to be in relief and polished, the body stippled. The ornament to be either nickel or silver plated, except that the ornament to be worn by the Captain of the Watch shall be gold plated.

Early 1900’s, sterling silver badge. Back is solid with no markings other than “Sterling”.



This was the predecessor of what became the Diplomatic Security Service.

Thank you, jmd62. It actually has a little light scuffing between the word “Department” and the intertwined “US”.

This is a cap badge for the FAA Airport Police Department that served Washington National and Dulles (both in Virginia):



This badge pre-dates 1987 as that department became part of the new Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority.

Although a cap badge, the breast badge is the same size and design.

Yep, James, fakes are a problem for public safety badge collectors just as in militaria collecting!

In my opinion, 99.9 percent of Texas Rangers, Indian Police, US Marshal, State Police, Railroad Police, NYC (and other big cities) Police and many, many others are faked, reproduced, fantasy or poorly made badges.  Remember, a reproduction badge is a copy where a fantasy badge is something that never existed.
